Donations As we are a not for
profit organization, we depend on donations and fundraising to support
and care for the needs of the animals in our care. There are many
ways that you can help us help the animals, and we hope that you will
chose one of the methods listed in this site to help us take care of
the animals.
To put things into perspective we are including some of the following facts. In one year we go through
a minimum of 3500 bales of hay (on average since opening). One bale of
hay in the past has cost us $2.50. There is a rumor that due to
the last two year’s poor hay crops that prices this year will be going
up, although we hope not. People in other parts of the province
and in the other eastern provinces have reported paying up to $4.00 per
bale. Using these figures we know we will need a minimum of
$8750.00 to pay for this coming years hay supply. If prices go
up, we may be paying as much as $14,000.00 for our hay.
To buy a tractor, and
haying supplies would save us money in the long run, so we are
currently looking for funding to do this. We estimate that on the
property available to us for haying, we could grow our own hay and
possibly have enough left to sell in our community, thus providing
additional income to help support the animals. If your organization
would like to help us in our haying equipment endeavor please contact
us, we would love help in this area.
In the mean time, if you
have the equipment and would like to do the haying for us on our
property, we would be thrilled! Please contact us, last year we
had no choice but to turn the horses out in the hay field as the
alternative was to let the hay go to waste.
Medical costs for the
animals has averaged out to be $250 per month. Grain costs have
averaged out to be no less than $150 per month.
These are just a few of
our regular bills, all together we have spent the equivalent of one
full
time employees yearly income on the farm, per year of operation.
Based on these figures, we feel that we could keep the farm running on
$50,000.00 in donations or funding per year. This is our budgetary
goal.
Keep in mind that even
the smallest donations add up, $5.00 will buy two bales of hay, $12.00
a bag of grain, $20.00 a worming dose for a horse, $50.00 hoof
care for two horses, $100.00 a Vet check including immunizations for
one horse…. As you can see, any amount can be put to good use here at
the farm. Thank you in advance for your support!
