Why not make a donation in honor of a teacher that has touched your life in a positive way? This is your chance to honor a teacher from your childhood who changed your life.

Submit a brief story about how this teacher touched your life and made a difference in your future.  We will post your story along with the teachers name on our website under the Kusiak Fund Memorials. Remembering Mrs. Kusiak
Mallett’s Bay Elementary School, Colchester, VT

I grew up in a very abusive home, where death threats and violent beatings were a norm, and I believed that a smack across the head meant, “I love you”.  In my home, animal, child, and wife abuse were commonplace, and I thought it was normal.  In grade four, I had the sweetest teacher. Mrs. Kusiak loved animals and she loved children.  She must have noticed that I was very unhappy, as she spent countless hours after school and during her lunch talking to me, and often asked me if I would like to help her with a little job after school. My mother appreciated knowing that I was being entertained after school as she had no one to watch me and I usually went home alone after school.  Mrs. Kusiak was a member of Green Peace and the World Wildlife Fund, and she often talked about treating animals and their habitats with respect and compassion.
She taught me that violence was not normal, and that love was not painful.  Today I think of her every time I care for an animal that is the victim of abuse, and I know she would be proud of my farm and what we are doing here. Mrs. Kusiak will forever be in my heart, and her influence will be passed on in my children, and in the lives of the children that our farm touches. Thank you Mrs. Kusiak, I dedicate this farm and it’s role in teaching others to love and respect animals, to you.
