Ghost

Starr
Estimated age 35-40, passed on Oct.20, 2004

I received the call about Starr from his owner.  She needed help with him.  He was severely under weight, only weighing 720lbs at 15.1 hands on admission to the farm.  As she no longer had pasture, and Starr was not eating the hay she tried to feed him we decided that a few months grazing might benefit him, and we wanted to see if he would gain weight.  After four months of grazing, extruded feed, beet plup, and every other method the vet recommended to help Starr gain weight, we came to terms with the fact that this former Pony Clubber was not going to make it through the winter because he could not gain weight.  Starr was humanely euthanized after a warm bran mesh breakfast and final apple.  Starr brought joy to many children's lives as a local Pony Club horse for many years.  He lived his last months happily in the Pleasant Valley being spoiled by our many volunteers..

Ghost (Unknown DOB - July 1, 2004)

Ghost  was the second animal to arrive at our farm the month we opened in July of 2003.  He arrived under weight, frightened, and unapproachable by people.  After a month he became more friendly and had bonded with Devon, a horse we had taken in who was terrified of people due to an extensive abuse history.  Ghost played an important role as her campanion,  helping her to relax.  He soon became the farm favorite with the local school children.  He lived at the farm for nearly a year until he was adopted out.  Sadly, Ghost later became ill and passed away.  His adoptive owner called us to alert us to his illness.  We were there to support his new owner during his last hours, and after his passing.  To this day, we all remember him fondly.  His antics will be with us forever..
