Pet Therapy Program

Pet Therapy Program

All animals that come to the farm are evaluated for temperament, and some are found to be particularly patient, kind, and responsive to humans. These animals are evaluated for trainability, and are exposed to circumstances that test their suitability to be used as pet therapy animals. Those that are found to be suitable are then used to visit the elderly in nursing homes, bringing joy to many nursing home residents that may have at one time owned farm animals of their own.

To date, the Nursing homes that have benefited from our visits have loved our “critters”.  The animals seemed to enjoy themselves, so we would like to continue this service.

For more information or to schedule a visit, you can contact us via e-mail or phone, ask for Kim.

We screen, select, and train rescued or surrendered farm animals to be used in our pet therapy program. These animals visit local nursing home clients, and work in local schools and on the farm with children with ADD/ADHD, Autism, Behavioural Issues, Violent Behaviour, and Children identified as being At Risk. An at-risk child is identified as a child who has spent part, or all of his or her life in a violent family, and may currently live in a foster home.
If you know of anyone who would benefit from this service, or if you would like to be part of the Pet Therapy Team please contact us. To be part of the team you must have a current criminal record check. This program is an excellent volunteer experience for students of nursing, social work, psychology, education, or geriatrics to name a few.
