Tours

School and Daycare Tours

We provide tours by appointment year round. The focus of the tour is to provide an educational experience for the children with our main objective being to teach children about everyday life on a farm, including safe and humane interactions with animals. Cost is $2.00 per child, and teachers/adults are free. If your classroom would like to make an additional donation we would appreciate it!  Some ideas aside of cash include: apples, carrots, raisins, and homemade cookies that your class could prepare the day before the visit if they would like. Please see our recipes for animal friendly treats.

Please have children dress appropriately for the weather and to get dirty.  We also recommend that the class bring their own antibacterial waterless hand washing soap, Purell has one that can be purchased at most drug stores.

I have also included some safety “reminders” that should be reviewed with the children prior to coming to the farm.  These tips are not only for the health and safety of the animals, but also the children.

The children should be wearing clothing that they can get dirty in, and sneakers or boots that can get “smelly”.  Their clothing will smell like a barn when they leave. No open toed shoes are allowed in the barnyard. Umbrella’s are also not allowed as they scare the animals. Feel free to bring cameras.

    Some safety tips to share  with the children include:

* No running inside the fenced areas.
* Stay near an adult.
*No loud voices, this scares the animals.
* No hitting the animals. (Some of these animals have been abused and I have been working very hard to get them to trust people).
*Don’t stick your fingers into the cages, or they may be mistaken for a carrot.
* It is very important that the children wash their hands before eating after petting the animals, I highly recommend bringing waterless antibacterial soap or diaper wipes to clean their hands with before they get on the bus.
* If any of the children are allergic to grasses, hay, bees, or have asthma, please be sure they bring their puffers, epipens, and benadryl if they use them just in case, as we are 30 minutes away from the hospital by ambulance, or they should not attend.

 Pleasant Valley Heritage Farm is located at 1059 route 8, Nashwaak Bridge. For more information or to book a date please contact us at 367-0893. Cost is 2$ per child, adults are free. This money is used to purchase supplies and medications needed to care for the animals.
